Welcome to the “Introductory Latin Course”, the free online website that strives to provide everyone with a passion for Classics, History and the human condition a chance to get a taste of the Latin language. My name is Ethan Tan, and I’m a university student from Sydney that studied Latin Continuers and Latin Extension for the Australian HSC. I have completed the US-based National Latin Exam (NLE) four times, procuring Gold Medals (summa cum laude) in all four courses with three full mark papers, as well as receiving numerous academic prizes at my school.
My Story
My deep passion in Latin, and my realisation that many people, both young and old, are unable to receive the same opportunity for education and immersion into classics as I have, has led me to developing this website for all people, from avidly passionate history buffs, to young students looking to take the subject in high school, to even those who just are interested, and want to learn something new. This place is for all of you!
I have only one goal in developing this course. Providing an accessible, tailor-made 20hr Latin experience that takes what I’ve learnt over the years and packages it in a neat, appropriate curriculum free from the limitations of “assumed knowledge” and “academic opportunity” that holds back and spurns so many from taking it up. The material chosen for my course has been influenced by my own experience in the Cambridge Latin Course curriculum, though it has been shaped in a more holistic way towards making efficient, realistic and tangible learning outcomes.
